The Zamboanga Peninsula, also known as Region IX, is the long arm of land that reaches out from the south-west of Mindanao. It covers the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay, and Sulu has been reassigned to the region more recently. Zamboanga City, with its Spanish-era heritage and Chavacano language, is the best known city here.
