Vigan is the capital of Ilocos Sur and a UNESCO World Heritage city. Walking around the old town feels like being somewhere in Europe, in Spain or Italy. The buildings are old and in different colours with different facades, and it is a very unique place in the Philippines compared with the usual places.
There is not too much to see in Vigan apart from the historic buildings, but that is the point. The Cathedral of Vigan, which dates back to 1758, is one of the main landmarks. You can also take a kalesa, a horse drawn carriage, around town, which is a good way to see the city. I went for a stroll instead and had a look inside the Crisologo Museum.
From Vigan, I headed up to Paoay and then Pagudpud, stopping at the Malacañang of the North and San Agustin Church on the way.
Walk the old streets at your own pace, and take a kalesa if you want a break for your feet. Vigan is a good stop on the way up to Paoay and Pagudpud.
