Philippines destinations and best places to visit!

The Philippines is a very complex country for a number of reasons. For starters, you will find that the country comprises of 7,641 magical islands, 2,000 of which are uninhabited.  Some of these islands even disappear with the tide! You will then find the 7,641 islands are then divided into 18 regions and from there, broken down even further into 82 provinces. These provinces then consist of a number of component cities and municipalities. So, from this, you can see how complex it can be! Don’t fear though. Through this website, I hope to give you a guide to identify and simplify the Philippines destinations that are the best of the best.

How this site is organised

The Philippines is typically thought of as three main geographic areas: Luzon in the north, the Visayas in the centre and Mindanao in the south. For the purpose of this website, I have broken the destinations down further into the 18 administrative regions. Each region is made up of provinces, and each province is made up of cities and municipalities, with the towns and villages inside them. Pick a region, choose a province, then drill down to the city or town you are planning to visit. I have been to 14 of the 18 regions so far and plan to visit the rest eventually. Use the Destinations drop-down menu at the top of the page, or click a tile below.

Places to visit in the Philippines

With over 7,000 islands, there are so many places in the Philippines to visit. There are your typical island destinations, there are mountains, volcanoes, waterfalls and much more. There are some of the most beautiful beaches in the world in the Philippine archipelago. You really do have to experience them to fully appreciate them. Island hopping in the Philippines is a popular activity as there are many groups of islands which you can visit in a day. With so many destinations to explore, I have put together a guide to Philippines island travel to help cut through the clutter.

Along the way, I tell you how to get there and give some special travel tips. There are places to visit for couples, families, backpackers, hikers, scuba divers and adventurers of all sorts. There are so many islands to visit that it can literally take you years to visit them all. There are also some hidden tourist spots in the Philippines that most people don’t know about – but I do.

It’s the journey – not the destination.

As I have mentioned on my home page, it’s the journey and not the destination that matters. You will find most of the fun lies in traveling to some of these amazing places. Although some of the modes of transport can be frustrating, inconvenient and time-consuming, it’s up to you how enjoyable you make it. Filipinos love having fun and always have a smile on their face. This can make it pretty hard to get too upset and frustrated with the journey. With so much amazing scenery around, it pays to just sit back and enjoy the ride.
