The Historical City of Vigan in the Philippines
If you are visiting the Philippines, you simply need to check out the city of Vigan in Ilocos Sur.
The city of Vigan was first founded in 1572 and there are a lot of great attractions in the area that you can visit while learning more about this historic place.
In May of 2015, Vigan City was officially added to the list of the New7Wonders Cities. Vigan is also a UNESCO world heritage site with buildings dating back to the 16th century.
Although thousands of people call Vigan home, thousands more visit the city to enjoy the beautiful atmosphere and the exciting attractions in the area.
This is one of the most unique places I have been to in the Philippines. Not only is it full of centuries-old buildings that make you feel like you have taken a massive step back in time, but it also makes you feel like you are in Europe.
Not only because of the old building facades and architecture but also because of all the horse-drawn carriages (known as kalesa’s) that frequent the streets.
Walk Through Calle Crisologo
While visiting Vigan, make sure to walk through Calle Crisologo where you will be greeted by dozens of different vendors. These vendors are selling all kinds of products, including food, jewellery, and assorted crafts.
The vendors are open for a large portion of the day with most closing after the sun starts to set. You never know what you are going to find while you are there.
Check Out the Vigan Conservation Complex
If you would love to have the opportunity to learn about the history of Vigan, you should take a trip to the Vigan Conservation Complex.
You can head out to the museum, review the archives and even ask questions about the culture and history of the area.
Make sure to have your camera ready because there are a lot of great things to see that you might even want to capture on film.
Go on the Vigan River Cruise
The Vigan River Cruise is an exciting and enjoyable adventure that you can go on while you are in the city. While gliding along the Mestizo River, you will hear information about the area and its people.
Sit back, enjoy the scenery, and have a good time learning more about Vigan while you are on the cruise.
The length of the cruise is around 30 minutes, but it may be possible for you to go on a longer cruise if you are interested in doing so.
If you are short on time, you can take a bus ride or a road trip to Pagudpud and drop into Vigan along the way. If you really only want to check out the old city, then half a day is plenty of time to take a quick stroll around.
If you are planning to visit the Philippines, you should stop by Vigan City because it is a beautiful place with lovely people.
